Sonic Prep Player of the Week: Jayvan Boggs

Boggs plays football at Cocoa High School

COCOA, Fla. – Jayvan Boggs doesn’t just run football routes; he is one of the best wide receivers in all of Florida.

The Cocoa High School senior just committed to Florida State, and Boggs has been spectacular in his final season at Cocoa. He’s averaging nearly 140 yards receiving per game and scoring 18 touchdowns.

Boggs is trying to help the Cocoa Tigers win their third consecutive state championship and seventh in school history. It starts with a state semifinal matchup Friday night against Cardinal Mooney in Sarasota.

“(We) never look ahead, (we) don’t skip over any team,” Boggs told News 6. “You got to take every game like it could be your last. Cocoa High School is a powerhouse, and it has been one for years. We’re trying to continue that legacy of it being a powerhouse.”

Cocoa won the 2023 Class 2S state title and had a 14-1 record. This year, the team comes into the semifinals with a 9-3 record.

“This year, we hungry,” Boggs said. “We came off of three losses; we’re very hungry. Last year, we had kind of a more undefeated route, so this year, we face a little more adversity than we did last year. We’re just a little more hungry for it.”
