ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Pride went toe-to-toe with the Washington Spirit during the NWSL Challenge Cup match on Friday night, ultimately losing 2-4.

After the Spirit took two yellow cards during the opening half of the game, the Pride scored the first goal at the 41-minute mark thanks to Defender No. 4 Rafaelle Souza, heading into halftime 1-0.

Going into the second half, the Pride managed to keep their lead for a while, though Spirit Midfielder Leicy Santos finally took a goal 72 minutes in.

Players continued to vie for control of the ball over the rest of the match, heading into extra time with an even 1-1 tie.

As a result, the teams were forced into a penalty shootout to determine the Challenge Cup winner. While the first two players on both teams were able to make their shots, the last two on the Pride missed the goal, ultimately giving the win to the Spirit.

The Pride are set to take on the Chicago Red Stars during their next big game on Friday, March 14.
