LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Walt Disney World said on Thursday that it has started swapping out its iconic purple road signs for more vibrant blue and yellow ones.
Last week, drivers along Osceola Parkway began noticing and taking pictures of the first sign to be installed. The blue signs include updates that will help lead guests to the future Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel near Disney’s Hollywood Studios, as well as the other Walt Disney World theme parks.

In a post online, Disney said the new signs draw inspiration from the recently refreshed Walt Disney World entrance signage that help celebrate the 50th anniversary.
Disney’s iconic purple signs have been in place since the early 1990s.
The purple signs were designed by artist and designer Deborah Sussman. According to the company website, the design team was tasked with developing a vehicular signing system that would be unique in spirit, clean, easy to follow and capable of being expanded as the area continues to grow.
The purple, red and yellow signs are found all over Walt Disney World, with some of them in Mickey Mouse shapes alongside the roads.
One thousand signs were installed across the resort in various forms, including large freeway signs, major and minor road signs, regulatory signs, gateways and bus graphics.
Disney said guests will see the new blue signs beginning to pop-up this year and beyond.
