Pickleball, anyone? Walt Disney World Resort hotels offer several new fitness activities

New additions part of Disney Family Wellness collection

Families staying at Walt Disney World Resort hotels have some new options when it comes to being healthy and active together.

It’s almost guaranteed that running to the theme parks early in the morning is certainly going to get your heart rate up, but Walt Disney World has recently rolled out fun, and mostly free, options that, in some instances, are just steps away from your hotel room.

Back in the spring, Walt Disney World touched on its Disney Family Wellness collection.

“The collection in general gives the guest a focus on their overall health and wellness. It’s not just the overall activity,” said Lauren Gossett, hotel manager at Disney’s All-Star Music Resort. “Everything is distinctly Disney that we do, and we’re going to make sure that guests that are staying on property, in the magic, get to take that opportunity.”

In addition to the resort amenities that guests are used to seeing including the running trails, spas, marinas and pools, Disney hotel leaders are adding new experiences at each of the resorts.

Over at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, for example, families can take-part in complimentary Disney family fitness classes.

“Imagine you’re in the Lion King section of the resort - and that’s exactly where the class is taking part. The entire class happens as the Lion King soundtrack plays in the background,” Gossett explained. “It’s about a 25-minute class and guests are going to experience different movements and dancing, it’s really a great time!”

If yoga is more your style, guests at select Disney hotels can find complimentary yoga sessions on select days. Guests are urged to ask the front desk if and when classes will be offered.

For guests hoping to take-up a complimentary game of pickleball, one of America’s fastest growing sports, Walt Disney World now has options available.

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village, and Disney’s Old Key West Resort have all recently transformed some of their former tennis courts into pickleball courts. Resort guests can rent a paddle or bring their own.

Don’t forget to stay hydrated! Disney leaders said they’re in the process of adding refillable water bottle stations to select resort locations.

At Disney’s All-Star Resorts, families can pick up a scavenger hunt map and search for clues and complete fitness challenges within the movies, sports, and music areas. Upon completion, Disney said families can pick up a button at any merchandise location to commemorate their accomplishment.

The health and wellness programs are not just outside. Inside resort rooms, guests will find complimentary wellness content programmed into their TVs.

Guests will find content including Disney Jr. dance parties and bedtime stories, Aladdin dance routines and “Star Wars Mindful Matters” meditation hosted by Star Wars star Ashley Eckstein.

Walt Disney World’s food and beverage and merchandise teams are also joining in on the Disney Family Wellness collection.

Just last week, Disney’s food and beverage teams rolled out all-new Disney Check Kids Packs at 10 select hotels.

The nutritious grab-and-go options, with Disney characters on the packaging, offer families delicious options for everyone to fuel up for their magical day. Packs include a number of things including fruit, yogurt, bite-sized chicken and cheddar bites, sliced ham and cheese or a turkey and cheese sandwich.

In the resort gift shops, merchandise teams are continuing to add new collections for guests to enjoy including stylish Disney athleisure wear, that give guests the chance to work out or relax.

“We’re just getting started! We’re building upon on this great collection that we already have. We’re trying to listen to the guests and look at what is the trending to satisfy their needs - we’re going to constantly expand and grow,” Gossett concluded.
