In the wake of Walt Disney World’s grand entrance to the Central Florida theme park scene in 1971, SeaWorld emerged just a couple years later up the road on I-4 as a unique attraction, captivating visitors with its marine life exhibits, live shows, and encounters with dolphins, sea lions and killer whales.

When the park opened, it didn’t have any major theme park ride attractions like it does today. The park’s footprint was also fairly small with a majority of the land on the west side of the park’s central lake undeveloped.

In fact, the park’s first major ride was the opening of the Sky Tower, the park’s 400-foot tall observation deck, which still operates today.

Some of the headlining SeaWorld Orlando shows and attractions back in 1973 included the killer whale and dolphin show “Shamu Goes Hollywood,” the seal and penguin show, “Ding-A-Ling Bros. Circus,” and the Hawaiian Punch Village nestled on the shore of the park’s lake.

Throughout its history, the park has changed owners and evolved and expanded with a handful of new experiences and attractions.
