‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ to bring icy evil to Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights

ORLANDO, Fla. – There’s New York at Universal Studios and pretty soon there will be a frozen empire.

Ghostbusters are making a return to Halloween Horror Nights. This year’s IP-based haunted house is based on Sony Pictures’ latest film, “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” and will unleash horror and humor at The World’s Premier Halloween Event.

Following the events in “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” the fourth installment brings the supernatural comedy franchise back to New York City where the Spengler family teams up with the original Ghostbusters who are now at the helm of a top-secret research lab for their ghost-busting enterprise. With the discovery of an old relic that has set free the vengeful spirit of Garraka, who threatens to freeze everyone to death, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their city and save the world from a second Ice Age.

As guests venture through Universal Studios’ haunted house, they will team up with the loveable heroes amid freezing and frightening conditions. Guests will encounter ghosts, some of whom are out for revenge while others are just there for a good slime. Ray’s Occult Books shop and the new high-tech lab and containment facility are just some of the movie scenes that will be brought to life.

Leading up to Thursday’s announcement, there was speculation that Ghostbusters might be returning to Halloween Horror Nights as the theme park is in the midst of celebrating the franchise at Universal Orlando’s Summer Tribute Store, CineSational: A Symphonic Spectacular, and the Universal Mega Movie Parade set to debut on July 3.

Halloween Horror Nights is starting earlier than ever this year and will run 48 select nights. This year’s chilling new collection of horrifying experiences will include 10 all-new movie-quality and original story-themed haunted houses. Guests can also encounter five scare zones and between the screams, enjoy a live show and fuel up on food and beverages inspired by the event.

Select tickets are available for purchase, including single-night tickets, Express Passes, the R.I.P Tour — which provides front-of-the-line access to the haunted houses — and the Behind the Screams: Unmasking the Horror Tour, offering a glimpse into how the scares are brought to life via a daytime, lights-on journey through select haunted houses.

Tickets are also on sale for Premium Scream Night which will be held on Thursday, Aug. 29.

A Quiet Place

Major Sweets Candy Factory

You’ve been invited to chaperone a field trip to a candy factory. The deadly delicious treats turn the kids into sugar-fueled fiends.

Monstruos: The Monsters of Latin America

With La Muerte as your guide, you’ll be begging for piedad from these three terrifying legends: Tlahuelpuchi, La Lechuza and El Silbón

The Museum: Deadly Exhibit

You decide to visit the new folklore museum exhibit, The Rotting Stone, when an evil escapes from within, destroying everything in its path.

Slaughter Sinema 2

If you’re dying for a B-movie horror marathon, head to the Carey Drive-in. Scream through scenes from creature features, grindhouse gore, spaghetti westerns, and more.

Triplets of Terror

You’re invited to the Barmy triplets’ birthday bash. But beware, they celebrate by recreating their family’s murders. Prepare for a gory gathering.
