Local businesses and tourism officials anticipate a positive economic impact as families and Disney enthusiasts flock to the area.

The ship, which has 1,256 staterooms onboard, is scheduled to embark on its maiden voyage, a seven-night Eastern Caribbean cruise from Port Canaveral on Dec. 21.

“We have a rich history with the Port Canaveral Authority,” said Carlos Jimenez, entertainment production manager with Disney Cruise Line. “We’ve been welcoming ships here for over 25 years starting with the Disney Magic in 1998, so we’re excited to bring in this new ship for guests to vacation here.”

Port Canaveral is anticipating a significant increase in passengers as millions of Americans are expected to take a cruise next year, many choosing a Disney cruise with new itineraries being offered.

“A lot of guests, enjoy a family vacation, but our guests also enjoy pre and post-cruise activities,” said Jiminez. “They go to our local tourist attractions, shop, dine, and check out all the stuff around us, our crew gets to enjoy the local area too.”

The Treasure’s journey to Port Canaveral was a busy one. On Sunday, the crew helped rescue four people on a sinking catamaran.

The Treasure was the closest ship when the boat started taking on water about 265 miles off the coast of Bermuda. They launched a lifeboat and got all four people to safety.

Following its arrival, the Disney Treasure will make a special trip to New York City for its christening event, before returning to Port Canaveral for its regular itineraries.

As the Disney Treasure embarks on its new journey, it promises to be a memorable addition to Disney’s fleet, adding a fresh wave of excitement to Disney Cruise Line and the Florida coastline.
