MELBOURNE, Fla โ€“ Eau Gallie High School students in Brevard County are making news after helping NASA with 250 special wires that are currently being used in space. โ€œItโ€™s called an EV or extravehicular wire,โ€ said William McInnish, the aviation technology teacher at Eau Gallie High School. The students are enrolled in Eau Gallie High Schoolโ€™s aviation program, which is the only certified aerospace aircraft assembly program at a high school level in the nation. The school program has also been a part of building storage lockers for NASA, which are used to transport food and experiments among other essentials. EAU GALLIE, Fla. โ€“ A student brought a gun in his backpack to Eau Gallie High School on Monday, prompting a brief shelter in place order on campus, according to Brevard Public Schools. The campus was put into a shelter-in-place status Monday morning as a result of a possible threat made on social media, according to BPS. A student was found with a gun in his backpack and taken into custody. Itโ€™s unclear what the student is charged with. โ€œAt no time were our students or staff in harmโ€™s way and normal school operations continued through the shelter in place, which has since been lifted,โ€ BPS said in a statement.

BREVARD COUTNY, Fla. โ€“ School officials in Brevard County announced that one of its local schools will close Friday after positive cases of COVID-19 were found inside the school. The decision was made to close the Eau Gallie High School campus after discussions and consultations with the Brevard Department of Health and the superintendent. According to a news release sent out by the school, the closure will go into effect at the close of school Friday and run through Sunday, Oct. 25. โ€œDistrict and school staff will work with families who need devices for eLearning,โ€ officials added. Free Covid-19 testing will be provided through the Department of Health for any Eau Gallie student or staff member.
