Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed a death warrant for the April 8 execution of inmate Michael Tanzi, who was convicted in the 2000 murder of a woman in Monroe County, according to the Florida Supreme Court.

In 1995, Edward James was convicted of murdering Betty Dick and her granddaughter, Toni Neuner, in a Seminole County neighborhood, Lake Hodge Estates.

An attorney for inmate Edward James is arguing that drug and alcohol use since childhood, multiple head injuries and a near-fatal heart attack have helped lead to James suffering “cognitive decline.”

A Seminole County circuit judge has refused to block the scheduled March 20 execution of convicted murderer Edward James, rejecting arguments that he should be spared, in part, because of “cognitive decline.”
