Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a man accused of battery and indecent exposure at a university campus in Melbourne.

The player said he believed it was her “assumed boyfriend,” 56-year-old Douglas Willard — a professor at the school who frequented the gym, detectives explained.

The state attorney’s office for Brevard County announced on Tuesday it is not filing charges against a Melbourne police officer and Florida Tech security guard who fatally shot at a student after he lunged at an officer with a pair of scissors in December.

The Melbourne police department, citing Marsy’s Law, says their officer – who suffered a minor, in-the-line-of-duty injury - is the victim of a crime and his name will not be made public.

Police shared a timeline of events on campus the night of the armed disturbance.

MELBOURNE, Fla. – A group of Florida Institute of Technology students trespassed on a construction site, climbed a radio tower and pointed a green laser at pedestrians because they were bored and wanted to “mess with people,” according to the Melbourne Police Department. The building is vacant and under construction with signs outside that read, “This is a restricted construction site. When officers arrived, they said they went to the roof but didn’t immediately see the students until another officer climbed the radio tower. Clemente told the arresting officers that he and his two friends were bored so they decided to climb up to the roof to use Sappington’s green laser to “mess with people,” according to the report. The men said they knew the property was vacant because it was under construction but they didn’t see the no trespassing signs, records show.
