Florida Tech student recounts lockdown at residence hall during knife attack
An 18-year-old Florida Tech student from Georgia was shot and killed when he lunged at Melbourne police and campus security Friday night after assaulting people with a knife in a residency hall on the universityโs campus, officials said.
College students preparing to head back to campuses for in-person learning
Staff and students who return in-person have been asked to get a COVID-19 test or self-quarantine. Friday, on-campus housing students got these mandatory rapid tests before being allowed to check inside their dorms. And while UCF leaders told us safety is key, the first day back this semester wonโt be the same at every area university. Florida Tech returns back to in-person learning on January 25th after two weeks of remote learning. โWe thought this was in the best interest of our students,โ said Dr. Brent Chrite, president of Bethune Cookman University.
Florida Tech pivots to remote learning for start of semester due to rising COVID-19 cases
School officials said in an update Tuesday that classes will resume Jan. 11 as planned but will be taught virtually. The semester will begin as scheduled Monday, Jan. 11, but classes will be remote learning only for the first two weeks, then resume in-person with remote learning options,โ the release read. Orientation and welcome week will be virtual, visit www.fit.edu/orientation and Florida Tech Engage for details. School officials are asking anyone traveling during the holiday break to follow the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) recommendations and best practices. All students, including remote students, are asked to complete the pledge.
