Give Kids the World Village hosted its annual event Over the Edge, which takes participants to the top of the 32-story Hyatt Regency Orlando and lets them rappel down the side of the building to raise money for the village. From wish children and athletes to the CEO of GKTW, everyone in attendance was there for one reason: to raise money for children staying at the village. She said she can’t wait to welcome families back on Sunday. “Sadly from the time we closed until now roughly 6,000 children have had their wishes postponed to come here and you can imagine the disappointment for these kids,” Landwirth said. Give Kids The World will remain closed until further notice, forcing the organization to lay off most of its staff, according to officials with the Kissmmee nonprofit. Give Kids the World Village is a nonprofit resort in Central Florida that relies on the theme parks and its partnership with The Make-A-Wish-Foundation to make the dreams of children with critical illnesses come true, according to its website. Landwirth did not say how soon the nonprofit would try to reopen but that her team would work to do it as soon as it could. I can promise you that I will work tirelessly to find a way to reopen our beloved village as soon as possible, she said.
