Operation Warp Speed reaches Central Florida nursing homes
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. โ The federal rollout to get vaccines into long-term care facilities has made its way in Central Florida. News 6 was at the Good Samaritan Society skilled nursing home in Daytona Beach Thursday as a Central Florida pharmacist vaccinated nearly 100 residents and staff just before the new year. This round of vaccines from Walgreens was Pfizer and they plan to be back next month to administer second doses. โWe are family, so when you lose a family member it is hard on us,โ she said. โItโs been really challenging because you fear for the residents more than yourself,โ Williams said.
โShe did light up when she saw me:โ Families begin to reunite in long-term care facilities
OSECOLA COUNTY, Fla. โ For the first time since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the Heritage Creekside assisted living facility within the Good Samaritan Society in Osceola County began allowing visitors into the long-term care facility this week. Ron DeSantis shut down long-term care facilities in an emergency order back in March. The Governor released some of the restrictions of that emergency order, allowing long-term care facilities to begin allowing visitors. Once they got all the staffing, scheduling, and personal protection equipment in place, the Good Samaritan Society felt comfortable to open its doors. โSo she did light up when she saw me and we had a good time joking and laughing.โThough the Governor has allowed for the limited reopening of long-term care facilities to allow for touching, only by the essential caregivers, the Good Samaritan Society is keeping cautious and keeping families socially distant for now.
