Seminole County School District communications director Michael Lawrence said the school postponed traditional homecoming festivities from football season into basketball season due to the coronavirus. School officials had hoped to plan a traditional homecoming dance if the pandemic had improved but as Florida continues to report thousands of new infections a day, that did not happen. Hagerty High School will have some homecoming week events including the crowning of their king and queen on Jan. 30 at the Girls PowderPuff football game, according to Lawrence. Lawrence said he was unaware if the parents planning the event had notified the health department about the event.

According to the lawsuit, Williams returned to work on Feb. 19, attending a districtwide administrative meeting. The next day, the supervisor told Williams she could only return to school if a psychiatrist hired by the district deemed her fit for work. The lawsuit accuses the school district of abusing its authority by mandating a treatment program.

According to officials, seven people at Lake Mary High School tested positive for COVID-19. Other high schools also saw high quarantine numbers last week. Two cases at Hagerty High School led to 112 students in quarantine and 135 students were asked to quarantine at Lake Brantley High School. According to officials, some students were involved in extracurriculars which is why the number of students needing to self quarantine is higher than usual.
