The Orlando City Council unanimously approved a plan Monday to use funds from the American Rescue Plan Act to convert two Greyhound buses into overnight shelters.

The announcement to drop the shelter plans comes after the city conducted an assessment to determine if the facility was viable while exploring ways to work with the community and businesses to address homelessness.

One week after residents of Orlando's SoDo district expressed disappointment in a perceived lack of transparency about plans for a proposed homeless shelter in their neighborhood, the city commissioner who represents them fielded their tough questions.
