A new operator, Hard Rock International, is now running the iconic Mirage resort on the Las Vegas Strip.

Hard Rock International says Monday it is spending over $100 million to give significant raises to 10,000 non-tipped workers, most of them in the U.S. The global gambling, entertainment and hospitality company is giving the employees an immediate increase to a minimum starting salary of $18 to $21 an hour.

Hard Rock wants to build a casino in or near New York City, even as it moves forward with a plan to build another one about 8 miles away in northern New Jersey.

The deal now will face scrutiny from the U.S. Department of the Interior.

Lawmakers drew closer Monday to approving a proposed 30-year gambling deal with the Seminole Tribe of Florida after leaders agreed to strip a controversial provision that could have opened the state to online gaming under the control of the tribe.
