New Yearโs Eve storms, possible tornados expected in South
(Image: NWS)NEW ORLEANS โ Severe storms capable of spinning up tornados are expected across the Deep South. Forecasters say the storms are expected to strike the region on Thursday โ New Yearโs Eve. The national Storm Prediction Center says the area most at risk of severe weather on Thursday includes parts of Louisiana, Mississippi and southeast Texas. โTornadoes along with damaging wind gusts and large hail are all potential threats," according to the National Weather Service office in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Forecasters say the risk of severe weather will later spread into Alabama and parts of the Florida Panhandle.

AP source: NHL players balk at changing CBA, league moves on
NHL players have balked at changing the collective bargaining agreement and the league is preparing to open the season Jan. 13 after starting training camp on New Year's Day, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on Tuesday. โWe are certainly continuing to work through all the issues we would need to resolve to start a season,โ Deputy NHL Commissioner Bill Daly said. The league and union agreed to a CBA over the summer that included a 10% salary deferral for the 2021 season and a cap on money left in escrow. Players, however, did not want to renegotiate a deal thatโs only a few months old. The league is planning to play between 50 and 60 games in the regular season before beginning the playoffs.
Television special to replace canceled 2021 Rose Parade

The Tournament of Roses Association said in a Thursday news release that the TV special will include โlive-to-tape musical and marching band performances, heartwarming segments related to the Rose Parade, celebrity guest appearances," and highlights from past Rose Bowl football games. The Rose Bowl college football game that traditionally follows the parade is still scheduled for New Year's Day.
