The new Neighborhood Patrol Unit (NPU) will not be a “call-taking unit.” Officers will assist with crime but will primarily spend their days walking, talking, meeting and greeting. The officers, working in pairs, will get to know people in five areas around Orlando where gun violence has spiked this year. Yong Hall, the supervisor over the Neighborhood Patrol Unit, said the officers will work to build and rebuild trust. “Our goals are to have everyone in the community know our neighborhood officers by name.”Hall said a new grant has allowed OPD to hire more officers to be able to dedicate the 10 exclusively to the Neighborhood Patrol Unit.

News 6 obtained body camera videos from police. He is also questioning how investigators compiled the body camera videos. He said the audio of Aldophe allegedly firing his gun first came from an officer’s camera who wasn’t there at the time the shooting allegedly happened. The forensic video analyst wrote in the report he synchronized all three body camera videos.

The arresting officer, Dennis Turner, was later fired by the Orlando Police Department following the September arrest of the student. The 6-year-old was arrested after school staff said she had a temper tantrum at school. Body camera video shows school staff questioning the arrest of Kaia and obviously concerned for her wellbeing. The video starts as the school resource officer walks into an office along with the OPD transport officer, where a school staff member is reading a book to the girl.
