Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings joined other officials at the opening of the time capsule, which was buried at the site of the Orange County Courthouse as construction was completed 25 years ago. The items included photographs and letters from local residents, students and civic leaders documenting a “Day in the Life” in Orange County. The first item pulled out by Demings, who was an Orlando police captain in 1995, was a page of photos provided by Lockhart Middle School. Pamela Schwartz, of the Orange County Regional History Center, provided details about the items contained in the capsule, which also included a letter from Chiles, a commemorative Orange County Sheriff’s Office badge and various newspapers.
