Hurricane Helene is gaining strength in the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to become a major hurricane before reaching Florida’s Big Bend region.

A tornado watch was issued by the National Weather Service Saturday morning for Marion, Flagler, Sumter, Lake, Volusia, Seminole, Orange, Polk, Osceola and Brevard counties, lasting until 11 a.m.

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – It was an active day in Central Florida on Monday and the area is under a marginal risk of severe weather overnight. The Tornado Watch that had been in effect has been allowed to expire for all of Central Florida. ORLANDO, Fla. – A cold front moved through Central Florida Friday, bringing strong storms and the risk of tornadoes with it. A tornado watch was in effect for all of Central Florida until 11 a.m. but has since expired. A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes.
