A 19-year-old woman behind the wheel of a vehicle involved in a head-on crash that killed a 23-year-old woman was sentenced to 10 years in prison, according to the state attorney’s office.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Recently released numbers show that hundreds of drivers across the Sunshine State have been ticketed or warned since Florida's new texting and driving law went into effect. Florida Highway Patrol troopers began issuing warnings on July 1, when texting while driving officially became illegal in Florida. Representatives with Florida Highway Patrol delivered their report Wednesday to members of the Florida House of Representatives Transportation and Infrastructure subcommittee. ORLANDO, Fla. – Authorities are working to identify a pedestrian hit and killed at an Orlando intersection. Officials with the Orlando Police Department said the victim was hit by a vehicle on North Orange Blossom Trail at Silver Star Road Tuesday night and died at the scene. Records released Tuesday show that at least nine witnesses called authorities to report the crash. None of them were with the victims or the driver and many of them only saw the aftermath. “Somebody got hit by a car, the car was coming and hit two people off their bikes,” a caller said. Police said a 36-year-old man and 37-year-old woman were taken to an area hospital in critical condition. Officials have not released their names or the name of the driver, who stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

WINTER PARK, Fla. – A false report of a bomb at the Winter Park SunRail Station Tuesday morning caused two trains to be delayed. The police presence was reported at about 11:30 a.m. Sky 6 video from the scene showed authorities searching a black vehicle in the station's parking lot. SunRail Train P317 was delayed 90 minutes and Train P316 was delayed 15 minutes. The exact nature of the false threat has not been provided. Check back for more details on this developing story.

ORLANDO, Fla. – East Colonial Drive will now have a new speed limit in some areas. Nearly three months since 49-year-old Jorge Arias was killed in a hit-and-run crash on his way to work, along Colonial Drive near Berkeley Street, News 6 learned the Florida Department of Transportation is moving forward with changes to the speed limit. The FDOT also recommended adding more speed signs, but Jacas said she doesn't think it will change how people drive. "Unless they have cops out here patrolling, I don't think it's going to make a difference," Jacas said. The department is working with the Florida Turnpike on a new project that would add bike lanes and sidewalks to Colonial Drive.

Officials with the Florida Department of Transportation and the I-4 Ultimate Project said the eastbound I-4 on-ramp from Universal Boulevard will close for five months beginning at 2 a.m. Monday. The closure will allow construction crews to continue building the new I-4 and Kirkman Road interchange as part of the I-4 Ultimate Project. Motorists traveling northbound on Universal Boulevard to eastbound I-4 will continue north on Universal Boulevard, turn right onto Major Boulevard, turn right onto caravan Court, turn right onto International Drive, turn right onto Kirkman Road and then follow the signs to the eastbound I-4 on-ramp. Motorists traveling southbound on Universal Boulevard to eastbound I-4 will continue south on Universal Boulevard, turn left onto International Drive, turn left onto Kirkman Road, and then follow the signs to the eastbound I-4 on-ramp.

COCOA, Fla. – Two toddlers were hospitalized after a crash in Cocoa Monday morning, the Cocoa Police Department said. Cocoa police said a 2-year-old girl and 1-year-old boy were injured in the crash took place around 11 a.m. Both children, who were secured in child seats during the crash, were sent to the trauma center at a hospital in Orlando, officials said. No other occupants were injured in the crash, police said. Officers said the woman driving the Impala was cited for failure to yield.

CLERMONT, Fla. – Two people, including a teenage girl, were injured in a shooting Saturday morning that shut down a portion of Florida's Turnpike in Lake County, the Florida Highway Patrol said. All southbound lanes of the turnpike were shut down before State Road 50 around 10:15 a.m., after a 37-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl, both from Miami, were shot by someone in a gray Toyota Camry, troopers said. Troopers said the shooting was believed to have been a case of road rage and are reviewing surveillance video at tollbooths to identify the driver of the gray Camry. Troopers are advising all drivers to not engage in a road rage incident, because you don't know what the other driver has as far as weapons.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Florida Turnpike has reopened following a crash that forced traffic down to one lane Sunday afternoon. The crash closed all northbound lanes except one at mile marker 243, just before U.S. 192. Details on the crash were not immediately released.
