The Florida Highway Patrol said an SGL construction truck carrying equipment was merging into westbound traffic when it was struck by a pickup truck.
The pickup overturned and hit another vehicle before catching fire, the FHP said. Bystanders pulled the pickup driver from his vehicle, according to troopers.
The victim was taken to a hospital but was alert and talking, the FHP said.
No other injuries were reported.
The crash remains under investigation.
I-4 west was closed in the area, and the wreck caused major backups for commuters. The interstate was reopened around 8:45 a.m.
