Survivor of Lee Road crash that killed 2 recounts tragic incident

Deputies say crash started from traffic stop; Police investigating

ORLANDO, Fla. – A double fatal crash closed down Lee Road in Orlando for hours after deputies say it all started from a traffic stop.

The wreck, which involved at least three vehicles, was reported on Lee Road between Edgewater Drive and Orange Blossom Trail.

Orlando police tweeted that two adults died in the wreck and a third adult was critically injured. A fourth victim was taken to AdventHealth Orlando, police said.

Orlando fire crews and police responded to the scene.

An Orange County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson confirmed that prior to the crash, deputies attempted to stop a gold Chevrolet Impala at the BP gas station near Lee Road and John Young Parkway. The driver fled the gas station, but deputies did not pursue per OCSO policy.

Four minutes after the attempted traffic stop deputies learned of the fatal crash from dispatch, according to the department.

The crash occurred in Orlando Police Department jurisdiction.

“It was just a loud screech and boom,” said Marge Pascal, who is one of the survivors of this fatal crash on Lee Road.

Only speaking to News 6, Pascal says she was driving the smaller white vehicle on scene before she was hit.

“The white car T-boned the one that is flipped over and then the white car he was trying to avoid and then he ended up hitting me,” Pascal said.

That’s when folks from Take 5 oil change says they stepped in alongside others to offer help.

“There was already 30-40 people trying to help and then trying to open up the passenger side door of the second car and back and one guy is saying stay with us, stay with us man this is not your time,” said Dave Leathery, who is a lead tech at Take 5.

People we spoke with are calling for people to slow down on Lee Road, saying even though police do patrol this area, it’s up to drivers to be accountable as well.

“It’s really sad here, all we can do is pray for their family pray that anybody who sees this you know kind of gives them a little bit of a wake-up call,” Emily Harpp said.

News 6 is still working with Orlando police to learn more about this incident.
