1 killed in Eustis crash; State Road 44 shut down

EUSTIS, Fla. – A 21-year-old woman is dead after a two-vehicle crash in Eustis, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Trooper said the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday on State Road 44 near Bottany Woods Drive.

According to FHP, a 2003 Ford Ranger lost control on while traveling westbound on SR 44, overcorrected and veered into the eastbound lane, colliding with the left side of a 2021 Ford Ranger. That pickup then lost control and overturned.

The Leesburg driver of the 2003 Ranger was killed, troopers said. The driver of the other vehicle, a 45-year-old Groveland man, remained at the scene with minor injuries, records show. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

State Road 44 is completely blocked while FHP investigates. Drivers should avoid the area.
