Pedestrian struck, killed on Marion County road, troopers say

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A 42-year-old Ocala man occupying the outside lane of a road in Marion County was fatally struck by a car early Friday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash occurred at 12:37 a.m. near the intersection of SE Maricamp Road and Southeast Bahia Avenue Court, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, a 38-year-old Belleview man driving a sedan east on Southeast Maricamp Road failed to see the pedestrian and the front-right of the car struck him, inflicting fatal injuries.

The driver was not injured.

It’s not known why the man was in the roadway.

Troopers are still investigating the crash.
