Motorcyclist dies after being rear-ended on SR-44 in Sumter County, troopers say

Westbound lanes blocked due to wreck, FHP says

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A 65-year-old motorcyclist was killed early Wednesday after being rear-ended on State Road 44 in Sumter County, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 5:50 a.m. near County Road 44A.

According to a crash report, a vehicle driven by a 44-year-old The Villages man was traveling west on SR-44 behind the motorcyclist.

At one point, the vehicle “overtook and collided with the rear of the motorcycle,” troopers said.

The motorcyclist, a 65-year-old Bushnell man, died at the scene.

The westbound lanes are blocked due to the wreck.
