ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 69-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle crash that shut down the northbound lanes of State Road 417 in Orange County for hours on Wednesday.
The crash happened Wednesday morning near mile marker 24, south of State Road 528. The lanes were closed around 6:20 a.m., but reopened hours later, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a tweet.
According to the FHP, a Dodge Challenger was heading north on SR-417 when the driver, an 18-year-old Orlando man, lost control while attempting to change lanes and hit a concrete barrier.
The vehicle went into the path of a Ford Escape that was also heading north and struck it, causing the Ford to overturn.

The driver of the Ford Escape, a 69-year-old Orlando man, was taken as a trauma alert patient to UCF Lake Nona Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Troopers believe he was not wearing a seat belt in the crash.
The 18-year-old driver was uninjured and stayed on scene, according to troopers.
An investigation is ongoing.
UPDATE: This is now a fatal crash investigation. There is currently roadblock for all northbound lanes on SR-417 south of SR-528 (mile marker 24). Traffic is being diverted at Moss Park Road.
