SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – The southbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Sumter County were closed for over six hours on Wednesday due to a deadly dump truck crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened near mile marker 314 on Interstate 75 around 10:15 a.m. when the truck struck a guardrail.

According to a crash report, the dump truck was traveling northbound on the interstate when it entered the inside shoulder for an unknown reason.
The truck crashed into the median guardrail, burst into flames and traveled over the guardrail and across the highway, according to the FHP. The truck came to rest along the outside southbound shoulder after impacting the concrete wall of the County Road 48 overpass.

The driver, identified as a 47-year-old Summerfield man, died at the scene, troopers said.
The south bound lanes were closed until 5:15 p.m., but have since reopened, according to the report.
