Employee test-driving Corvette killed in crash on Sand Lake Road in Orange County, FHP says

1 killed, 1 injured in wreck

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A dealership employee on a test drive of a Chevrolet Corvette was killed in a crash Tuesday morning on Sand Lake Road in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The two-vehicle wreck happened around 10:30 a.m. near Sand Lake Pointe Loop.

The FHP told News 6 a 2013 Chevrolet Corvette involved in the wreck was on a test drive at the time of the crash, and an employee had been driving the car. The medical examiner identified the driver as Toby Clarke. However, no information was provided about which dealership the employee or vehicle belonged to.

A witness told troopers the Corvette was speeding east on Sand Lake Road when a Honda Accord tried to make a left turn in front of the Chevrolet, according to a crash report. The front of the Corvette hit the left side of the Honda, causing it to go off the roadway and overturn in a ditch.

The Corvette driver, a 20-year-old Orlando man, died in the crash, and his passenger, a 22-year-old who also worked at the dealership, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with minor injuries, the FHP said. The Honda driver, a 21-year-old Orlando man, was not taken to a hospital and remained at the scene.

An investigation is ongoing.
