Orlando man, 62, struck, killed while walking across I-4 near Disney World

Westbound Interstate 4 closed for hours near SR-536

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 62-year-old Orlando man was struck and killed early Tuesday while walking across Interstate 4 near Disney World, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The fatal wreck was reported at 1:25 a.m. on westbound I-4 at mile marker 67 near State Road 536.

According to the FHP, the man was walking across the interstate when he was struck by a semitrailer that was traveling west on I-4. Troopers said it’s not known why the man was crossing I-4.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

The big rig driver, a 52-year-old St. Cloud man, was not injured and remained at the scene, according to an FHP crash report.

All westbound lanes of I-4 were closed for hours, with drivers forced to get off the interstate at exit 67. The interstate reopened around 7:30 a.m.

No other details have been released.
