OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A 65-year-old woman from Lutz was killed and two other people were injured in a crash that shut down eastbound Interstate 4 in Osceola County early Saturday.

The crash occurred around 4:18 a.m. at mile marker 59, troopers said.

According to a crash report, the wreck involved a 2006 Kia Sportage, a 2015 Subaru WRX and a 2010 Jeep Wrangler, all traveling eastbound and approaching mile marker 59.

The Subaru, being driven by a 30-year-old Lakeland man, was in the center lane behind the Kia, which the Lutz woman was driving, the report states. The Lakeland man at one point failed to observe the Kia, striking its rear with the front of the Subaru, troopers said. As the Subaru ran off the roadway left and onto the median, hitting the center guardrail, the initial impact had spun the Kia clockwise, leaving it disabled and at rest across the center and outside lanes, according to FHP.

Shortly after, the Jeep — being driven by a 39-year-old Apopka man — approached the wrecked Kia in the center lane. The Apopka man failed to observe the Kia, troopers said, and the front of the Jeep struck the left side of the Lutz woman’s vehicle, sending it into the center guardrail.

The Lutz woman was taken to Celebration Hospital and pronounced dead, the report states. The Jeep’s driver and passenger, a 38-year-old Orlando woman, were taken to Osceola Regional Hospital for treatment of minor and serious injuries respectively, the report states.

The man who drove the Subaru was not injured in the crash and remained at the scene, troopers said.

Eastbound lanes of Interstate 4 were shut down following the crash, with only the rightmost lane of traffic seen getting by as of 7:30 a.m. at exit 60. By 8:30 a.m., lanes were being blocked at mile marker 58, Osceola Polk Line Road, according to FHP.

Traffic could be observed passing through the area once again by 11 a.m.

FHP is still investigating.
