ORLANDO, Fla. – Trooper Steve and News 6 reporter Ezzy Castro had a special assignment on Friday.
They took Angel Tree toys from the News 6 studios to the Angel Tree joy center, also known as Santa’s workshop.
“I think this is obviously for us. I said this earlier, it’s more than just an event, more than just a partnership, I think genuinely every single soul at News 6 really takes this seriously and it’s dear to their hearts,” Ezzy said.
This year, all 6,000 angels were adopted, including 1,000 seniors. During News 6′s Giving Tuesday phone bank, $239,605 was raised thanks to News 6 viewers and media partners, including a $100,000 donation from Light Orlando.
“We’ve seen where people have been recipients of the Salvation Army, they’ve been able to overcome whatever obstacles that set them back, then they are out there donating their time and volunteering again and that’s what I think it’s about,” Trooper Steve said.
