Man exits vehicle along I-95 in Brevard County, dies after being struck by 2 semitrucks

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A 57-year-old man from New York was struck and killed by two separate vehicles after exiting his vehicle that was parked on the shoulder of Interstate 95 in Brevard County on Monday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened near mile marker 190 around 7:58 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the interstate.

According to a crash report, a semitruck with trailer was traveling northbound on Interstate 95 in the outside lane at the same time a second semitruck with trailer was also traveling northbound in the outside lane.

Troopers said the Tonawanda, New York man parked his vehicle on the outside shoulder of the interstate before he exited the vehicle into the direct path of the first semitruck.

According to the report, the semitruck swerved to the center lane in an attempt to avoid the pedestrian, but the man also ran into the center lane. As a result, the front of the semitruck struck the man.

The impact caused the man to fall into the outside lane into the direct path of the second semitruck, FHP officials said. The undercarriage of the second semitruck collided with the man.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers of the two semitrucks remained on the scene and were not injured, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.
