MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Three people were killed and a fourth was taken to the hospital in critical condition after a crash Thursday afternoon in Marion County that involved a stolen sheriff’s office patrol vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol and Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said that around 2 p.m., they responded to a “suspicious incident” at the Forest Plaza in Silver Springs, where a woman — identified as Kendra Boone, 33 — had tried to take an elderly woman’s keys.
While Boone wasn’t successful, she still tried to get into the woman’s vehicle, deputies added.
Upon arrival, a deputy told Boone to go to the back of his patrol car, though shortly after he got out of the car, Boone got into the passenger-side door and climbed into the driver’s seat, investigators explained.
While the deputy tried to remove Boone from the car, she sped away from the scene, sparking a chase with law enforcement, according to the sheriff’s office.

In a release, deputies said that Boone fled along East Highway 40, making two U-turns as deputies chased after her. According to detectives, Boone was speeding well over 100 mph and “driving erratically” during the chase.
After reaching the 26700 block of East Highway 40, Boone drove off the road onto the right shoulder to pass a semi-truck, but she lost control of the stolen car as she tried to get back on the roadway, deputies said.
As a result, she entered into the oncoming lane of traffic, crashing into a pickup truck, the release shows.
Investigators said the stolen cruiser slammed head-on into the pickup. Boone was killed in the crash, along with the driver and a passenger in the pickup, according to FHP.
Another passenger in the truck was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and may not survive, troopers said.
