MELBOURNE, Fla. – A Brightline train struck and killed a pedestrian Thursday afternoon in Melbourne, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue and Melbourne police.
Firefighters and police responded to the area of E. Fee Avenue and S. Harbor Boulevard around 2:43 p.m.
Melbourne police said they got a call about a person lying on the tracks moments before a Brightline train came through.
“Our officers got on scene in about two minutes and immediately were able to declare the person as deceased,” said Melbourne Police Commander Heath Sanders, “We’re still in the infancy of our investigation and we don’t have an identification yet. All we know is a white male, we don’t know an age, where he is from, where he lives. We don’t even know why he would do this other than we believe it was an intentional act by himself.”

Police said there were passengers on the train at the time heading southbound to Miami.
Investigators are still trying to identify the man killed, police added.
