Hit-and-run crash kills bicyclist in Marion County, troopers say

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – An Ocala man riding a bicycle Friday night in Marion County was fatally struck in a hit-and-run crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 7:39 p.m. on County Road 314, not far from Silver Springs, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the 35-year-old man riding the bicycle was traveling west on CR 314, approaching NE 68th Court, within the westbound travel lane when the vehicle hit the bicycle from behind.

The man was pronounced dead at a hospital, according to FHP. Troopers believe he was not wearing a helmet.

Troopers said on Tuesday the vehicle is a 2010-2015 Chevrolet Equinox and will have noticeable front-end damage.
