Latest I-4 project could be done 15 years ahead of time. Here’s the area it will focus on

State updates ‘Moving Florida Forward’ projects

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation held an industry forum on Tuesday to share more details on the next phase of improvements to Interstate 4, what the state says could be done more than a decade ahead of schedule.

More lanes are on the way for a section of I-4 in Polk, Osceola and Orange counties — between U.S. 27 in Polk and State Road 536 in Orange — where exit improvements, 14 miles of new express lanes and a connection to Poinciana Boulevard are planned.

According to the state, the Moving Florida Forward Infrastructure Initiative has advanced these congestion relief projects by some 10-15 years.

Gov. Ron DeSantis proposed Moving Florida Forward in January 2023, originally calling for $7 billion to speed up construction at 20 interstate infrastructure projects across the state.
