Motorcyclist killed in crash with SUV that stopped in Lakeland road, police say

Fatal wreck occurred in 2100 block of East Edgewood Drive

LAKELAND, Fla. – A man riding a motorcycle through Lakeland on Thursday morning suffered fatal injuries when he struck an SUV that had pulled out of a parking lot and stopped in a roadway, according to police.

The crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. in the 2100 block of East Edgewood Drive, the Lakeland Police Department said in a news release.

The motorcyclist — identified as Cody Ingram, 22, of Lakeland — was traveling west on East Edgewood Drive when an SUV exited a parking lot on the north side of roadway and came to a stop in the inside lane, the release states. The 41-year-old Lakeland woman driving the SUV had stopped to wait for eastbound traffic and suffered no injuries in the ensuing crash, police said.

Ingram was thrown from the motorcycle in the wreck and was pronounced dead at a hospital, the statement reads.

East Edgewood Drive was shut down for about two hours as the scene was processed with help from Polk County Fire Rescue and the Lakeland Fire Department, according to the statement.
