OCALA, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol released new details about two crashes last month on Interstate 75 in Marion County and troopers are looking for help in finding a tractor-trailer that left the scene after being involved in the initial wreck.
The first crash happened just after 10 p.m. March 20 north of Ocala on the interstate. Troopers say a gold van with six elderly people inside struck the semi-tractor-trailer combination from behind in the center southbound lane of I-75. The impact disabled the van, but troopers say the tractor-trailer moved off to the shoulder and then continued south on the interstate.

Troopers say the driver never reported the crash or helped the people in the van. Minutes later, troopers say a sedan’s driver didn’t see the van that was still stopped in the road and struck the vehicle.
The 71-year-old driver of the van was killed, according to FHP. The five passengers in the van and the 46-year-old driver of the sedan were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries.
