Ocala man dies in Gainesville after crash with tree off I-75, FHP says

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 22-year-old Ocala man died early Sunday after crashing into a tree while driving a pickup truck on Interstate 75, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 12:25 a.m. in the northbound exit ramp to State Road 121 in Gainesville, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the man entered the ramp at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate the curve. The truck entered the east grass shoulder, where it struck a tree with its front section, the report states.

The driver was taken to Shands UF Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to FHP. Troopers believe he was not wearing a seat belt.
