LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A 52-year-old Clermont man was killed and a 39-year-old Orlando man was critically injured early Wednesday in a head-on crash in Lake County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal wreck happened around 6:30 a.m. on Schofield Road, west of Five Mile Road.

According to the FHP, the Clermont man was driving a 2018 Nissan Maxima east on Schofield Road and crossed the double-yellow line, traveling into the direct path of a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by the Orlando man.

The cars collided head-on, causing both vehicles to overturn several times, the FHP said.

The Clermont man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Orlando man was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center with critical injuries, an FHP crash report states.

Both men were wearing seat belts, the crash report shows.

No other details have been released.
