What’s the deal with a right-turn arrow?

Trooper Steve answers viewer questions

ORLANDO, Fla. – News 6 traffic safety expert Trooper Steve answers viewer questions about the rules of the road, helping Florida residents become better drivers by being better educated.

Trooper Steve on Tuesday was asked by viewer Cheryl C., “When it comes to the actual traffic signal, what is the purpose of the red arrow? Am I still allowed to turn right on the arrow?”

He said the reason the light is an arrow is because it is specific to a designated travel lane.

“You will sometimes see multiple arrow type signals if there are multiple turning lanes. a driver is permitted to make a right on red when a red right arrow is present as long as there are no other signs instructing otherwise,” Trooper Steve said.
