POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A three-vehicle crash Wednesday near Haines City killed a woman and left two other people with serious injuries, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred around 3:47 p.m. on U.S. 27 at Morrison Ranch Road, the sheriff’s office said on social media.

The driver of a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt — identified as Katrina Moore, 64, of Haines City — lost control of the vehicle while traveling south on U.S. 27 and crossed the median, entering northbound lanes and striking a 2023 Dodge Durango in a head-on crash that ejected Moore from the Chevrolet, the post states. After the impact, both vehicles collided with 1997 Kenworth truck, deputies said.

Moore was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office. The two occupants of the Dodge — a 63-year-old Winter Haven man driving and a 59-year-old Orlando woman riding as passenger — were taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries, deputies said.

Two lanes of southbound U.S. 27 were shut down for around four hours while the northbound lanes were closed for about four and a half hours, according to the sheriff’s office.

An investigation is said to be ongoing.
