MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A Florida trooper was involved in a shooting Sunday evening on Interstate 75 in Marion County in what authorities described as a “highway violence incident,” officials said.

The shooting was reported in the southbound lanes of the interstate near mile marker 374, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, without detailing what specifically occurred.

The FHP said Monday in a statement that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is “investigating an officer-involved shooting that involved a FHP trooper.”

It’s not known if anyone was wounded in the shooting or if shots were fired at the trooper.

The FHP asked motorists to seek alternate routes before reopening the southbound lanes of I-75.

No other details have been released.
