SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A freight train rolling through Sumter County struck a Jeep that had become stuck at a railroad crossing Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 8:20 a.m. on County Road 720, just east of U.S. 301, troopers said.

According to a statement from FHP, the Jeep Wrangler — driven 57-year-old Bushnell woman — became disabled on the tracks at an ungated railroad crossing.

The woman was unable to move the vehicle and managed to get away before the CSX train struck it, the statement reads.

Photos of the scene show the mangled Wrangler next to the train, which troopers said was some 80 cars long.

The train came to a controlled stop after the crash and no injuries were reported to the woman or to the two engineers operating the train, according to FHP.
