SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A tractor-trailer overturned and split open Friday evening along the Florida Turnpike in Sumter County, spilling the food it was carrying and leading to overnight lane closures, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred southbound around 6:20 p.m. near the 307 milepost, south of the Turnpike’s junction with Interstate 75, troopers said.

According to a preliminary FHP crash report, the vehicle suffered tire failure and traveled onto the shoulder as its driver — a 47-year-old Minnesota man — lost control of it. The tractor-trailer struck a guardrail and overturned, spilling what troopers said was a load of sausage and sauce onto the roadway.
