MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A 74-year-old Sebring man walking across U.S. 441 near Summerfield was struck by a car and killed Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 6:45 a.m. along southbound U.S. 441 near SE 173rd Street, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the man was struck by a sedan after walking westward into the vehicle’s direct path in the outside southbound lane of U.S. 441.

After the front left of the sedan struck the man, the vehicle — which was being driven by a 44-year-old Ocala woman — came to final rest on the west grass shoulder, the report states.

Marion County Fire Rescue and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist troopers at the scene.
