MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A 36-year-old Fort McCoy man died after being rear-ended by a pickup truck while riding a motorcycle through Marion County on Friday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 8:16 p.m. on County Road 315, just south of NE 225th Place, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the motorcycle was traveling ahead of the pickup truck, both of them heading southbound on C.R. 315, when the front of the truck — driven by an 18-year-old Fort McCoy man — struck the rear of the bike. The motorcycle was described as “a non registered motor vehicle,” the report states, adding it had no lighting equipment.

Upon impact, the motorcycle traveled onto the west grass area and into a ditch as the pickup truck continued south until stopping in the west grass area just south of where the crash happened, troopers said.

Troopers believe the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet, according to the report.

No other details were shared or confirmed.
