SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – A 20-year-old Winter Springs man died early Friday after crashing an SUV through a Seminole County subdivision’s gate, then into a house, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The fatal wreck occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the area of Clayton Crossing Way and Hidden Cypress Lane, troopers said.
According to an FHP crash report, the man was driving north on Clayton Crossing Way, approaching the gated entrance of the Clayton Crossing subdivision, when he failed to slow the vehicle and struck the gate, continuing north on Clayton Crossing Way.
The man then failed to negotiate a curve, causing the SUV to travel off the roadway and collide with a house, the report states. No residents were in the home at the time of the wreck, troopers added.
The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to FHP. Troopers believe the driver was not wearing a seat belt.
The FHP is still investigating.
