8 injured in 2 separate crashes on Florida’s Turnpike in Lake County, troopers say

Both crashes happened near mile marker 285 in Groveland

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – Eight people were sent to the hospital in two separate crashes on the Florida’s Turnpike in Lake County on Sunday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crashes happened near mile marker 285 in Groveland around 9:22 a.m.

According to the FHP, the first crash involved eight vehicles that were traveling north on the Florida’s Turnpike south of State Road 19 in the inside lane.

Troopers said a vehicle failed to stop for a second vehicle ahead and as a result, the front of the first vehicle struck the back of the second vehicle. The collision then caused a chain reaction between the second vehicle and the remaining six vehicles.

According to the FHP, the secondary crash involved a SUV in the inside lane that failed to stop for the crash ahead and swerved to the right. As a result, the SUV collided with a van in the outside lane which then caused the van to overturn.

Troopers said a total of eight patients were taken to the hospital, all with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
